Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to design a website?

I charge between R5 000 and R15 000 for the initial design and layout of most small business websites. Any of these could be turned into an online shop, but there is a lot more time and testing needed when it comes to online shops. I prefer to quote separately depending on the clients needs.

How many website visitors can I expect to get?

To be honest, none. Unless you decide to market, or promote the website on a monthly basis. Yes, it is possible to get free or organic traffic, but this will happen over time. You would be extremely lucky if you had anyone visiting your website, unless they have heard of your company before, or found you by accident. The use of keywords is extremely important, when it comes to writing content for your website. You need to think of what your customers would be searching for. But if you are looking for targeted traffic, you would have to pay Google or Facebook to advertise on their platforms. You could expect to spend a few thousand rand per month on this, as it does not come cheap.

Why are websites so expensive?

If you think about it, they are not actually that expensive. It takes between 1 and 3 weeks to complete most small business websites. This is 40 to 120 working hours. The more custom projects are charged on an hourly basis. This is still much cheaper than paying a marketing agency, of 10 to 20 people, or renting a brick and mortar store. What you see on the internet is only the end result. There is a lot of time and effort that goes into developing a website.

How much will it cost to keep my website up to date?

The advantage of Joomla, or WordPress is that you can edit your own website, if you wish to do so. Once it has been setup, the owner may get access to the website should they wish to edit it themselves. Should they break the website, I could try fix it, but there is no guarantee that its fixable, due to code being deleted, or something similar. If you dont want to edit your own website, I can do this for you, but will have to charge an hourly fee.

How much will it cost me every month, to host the website?

Yes, there are cheaper hosting companies out there. But, I charge between R200 and R350 per month for Website Hosting and Email Accounts. I hope to offer a more personalized, hassle-free experience. Every website needs to be hosted on a Web Server somewhere in the world. This is done on a month-to-month basis, as you are actually renting the space, and can never own it outright. There is no contract, and you are welcome to cancel at anytime, provided that all outstanding expenses have been covered.

Do I need to supply all the content and information?

Yes, you do. You will need to supply your company logo, and any existing photos and marketing material that you might have. Due to copyright reasons, and plagiarism, you need to personally own all photos and written content that is displayed on your website, and you need to have the legal right to use it, and display it on a public website. This means that you cannot just steal someone else’s content or images, off the internet.

What if I don’t have any photos, or written¬†content?

If you don’t have a logo, photos, videos or any other form of content. I can help you, but this will be charged separately, depending on your individual needs. It is possible to purchase stock photography, although this is not advised. It’s better to use real images, in order to build trust and credibility with your website visitors. Its also possible to hire a copywriter that will write everything for you. They will however need to get as much information from you as possible, in order to know what products and services that you provide.

How many email accounts can I have on a 1GB Hosting Package?

You can have between 1 and 5 email accounts, depending on the size of each mailbox. The default size is 250MB, but when setup correctly as a POP email account, these accounts should not fill up the server, as they will be downloaded to your device. If you chose to setup as an IMAP account, this means that all emails will be stored on the web server, and the space will eventually fill up. Should you wish to upgrade your hosting to a 2GB, or 3GB account, this can be done at anytime.
